「〜がある・いる」を表す There is 〜. / There are 〜. の文です。あとの名詞の数による is・are の使い分け、否定文、Is there 〜? / Are there any 〜? の疑問文と答え方を練習します。

「〜がある・いる」は There is ~. / There are ~. で表す。あとの名詞が1つなら is、2つ以上なら are を使う。

- ポイント1There is/are のあとの名詞が1つなら is、2つ以上なら are を使う(There are two books.)。
- ポイント2on・in・under・near などの場所を表す語句といっしょに使うことが多い(on the desk, near my house)。
- ポイント3否定文は There is not [isn’t] ~. / There are not [aren’t] ~. の形にする。
- ポイント4疑問文は Is/Are there ~? の形にする。Are there any ~? のように any を使うこともある。

(1)A bird is in the box.→ There is a bird in the box.
